So there I was at 10,000 feet ...waiting for the much-anticipated and ultimately cancelled Red Falcon-line ,,, and this model zooms in to make a surprise touchdown. Unlike Red Falcon, Phoenix made its approach unannounced, not being heard from (or about) until they were wheeling their way to the parking area. And that's for the best, because another disappointment like the cancelled Matchbox X-1 or the Red Falcon scrub might have brought on the Big One, or at least a bout of heavy caffeination, followed by lack of sleep, followed by more caffeine, and ... well, you get the idea.

Anyway, and unfortunately, this lovely thing will probably appeal only to a limited segment of the diecast-airplane community. The largest part of that community seems to prefer up/down landing gear, moveable control surfaces, and weapons loads, and the L-39C has none of these. But, however, and instead, it is an impeccably designed and engineered solid model that has what appears to be machined, always extended landing gear; very fine and subdued panel lines augmented by painted rivet heads; a gorgeous high-gloss paint job with colorful high-quality markings; two well-proportioned pilots in a nicely finished cockpit; and a hefty all-metal feel rarely found these days outside of Marushin. Fortunately, there is no right or wrong in wanting "more" or "less" in a model, so if you can possibly do so, get a copy of this beauty. It's one model you can display proudly right next to the cut glass in the family's (read significant other's) curio cabinet (or at least you can sneak it in there to test the reaction!).

Just reply to any complaints, "Hey, this is really nice stuff!".
