Spitfire Mk 1a - Lieutenant Colonel William Dunn
Collectibles. National Aviation Hall of Fame. Matchbox produced three early-version Spitfires, and all are excellent. With little doubt they are better than the Corgi version (though not as good as Corgi's newest ), but without extendable landing gear. The only downer is the flat leading edge of the wings, a feature which appears in other Matchbox diecast, most particularly the P-38 (where the finish isn't nearly as good). Perhaps the flat edges were to prevent preteens from using the models as Ninja weapons...grasp the wingtip, move the model to the one o'clock position, toss. (This action can also cause heart attacks in older daddy-collectors, so it could be considered a double-edged thingy.)
