Spitfire Mk 1a - R6885, EB-Q, Pilot Officer Eric Stanley Lock, No. 41 Sqn., Catterick, August 1940

Aviation Archive. Battle of Britain, 70th Anniversary. This is Corgi Spit Reborn. It could have been Corgi Spit Regurgitated, but this is an entirely redone model, with new treatment in the cowling, canopy, landing gear, oil and radiator scoops, and paint colors. At the same time, this line doesn't negate the previous series of classic Mk 1's, which now become collectables.

These new models are extremely accurate, a case in point being the radiator under the starboard wing, which in the previous version simply laid on the wing (if you were lucky); on this new version, the fairings are included on each side of the radiator, and they are recessed in the wing. (Even the Pitot tube received some much needed attention.) All in all, this line will give all Corgi Mk 1 collectors a reason to start over again (and a reason to regret it later if they don't--which for some of us would be history repeating itself). (Note in some of these pictures the classic wrong-way aerial on the classic Spit.)
