Spitfire Mk.I "GR-P" No. 92 Sqn, RAF Pembrey,
Flt Lt Robert Stanford Tuck, May 1940
Air Power Series. The heavy-metal Spits from HM are most excellent. though the "Early Spitfire" line uses two movable gimmicks, a sliding canopy and folding landing gear. Both gimmicks work, but to make the canopy slide over the pilot, the hood is molded a little larger than scale, which can be a bit off-putting. However, the folding gear is a masterpiece of diecast engineering, and it is almost worth the price of the model just to see it work!

There were several manufacturing slip ups on my copy. Glue was over applied in various places, there was a longish piece of paint missing on the trailing edge of one wing (caused, I think, by the bubble packaging), and there were various scratches on the paint, especially on the black underwings. These errors reminded me a bit of the middle years at Corgi, when the same types of errors would crop up model after model.
